Due date update

The baby is due today on the official records although the sonographer would have estimated the 21st.  Gina is doing well, well enough that it is hard to believe that the baby will be here soon.  I feel pretty blessed.

1.5 weeks ago Gina was dilated to a 2-3.  Last week she was dilated to a 2.  Today Gina went  in for a checkup and was dilated to a 1 or 1.5.  So at this rate of progress I guess conception will unhappen in about 9 months.  Must be antioxidants.

Actually, though, we feel pretty good about things.  Today when we went to the midwife the baby was again head down.  So the midwife changed the plan from a scheduled C-section to a scheduled induction.  This is huge encouragement.

The schedule is that Gina should show up at the hospital at 5:45 a.m. this Thursday.  I think that is considerate: you can’t fully recreate the excitement of rushing to the hospital some time in the night when you schedule an induction but by making it early enough you can at least make it that much more like spontaneous labor.

Actually there are two real benefits to such an early time.  The first is that Gina (and I) won’t be so tired when all the action is happening.  The second is that the new shift comes at 7:00 am.  That means that the exciting stuff will happen with fresh doctors, nurses, and midwives as opposed to tired ones.

Gina has been having a fair amount of show, though, so  we’ll see if we end up keeping that appointment or not.
