One of those things we’ve postponed
November 6, 2007
When I was 14 we went to Khan’s in London. The food was fantastic and I found myself pretty interested in India. When we got back home Br. Barker heard about my interest and gave me some old records that taught a bit of Hindi. I still remember one or two phrases that I pull out every so often to surprise a student who speaks Hindi.
I remember making plans at the time to go on a walk-about. Rob offered to come along. We were going to just travel about and work when we had to and learn a bit about the world. India was one of the prime destinations.
Now all of the sudden I’m 30 and I never went on that walk-about. I graduated early, went on a mission, got married, and started having a family.
I asked Gina today what she would have done with her extra money if she hadn’t gotten married. She didn’t even hesitate. “Travel.” So I guess that when the time comes I have a willing companion. I don’t know if she’s going to go for the vagabond plan though–although she has mentioned wanting to wander about on a couple of motorcycles.
