I didn’t earn the sunset
November 21, 2007
I didn’t earn the sunset,
that shone across the sky
I didn’t make the sunshine
first smash then bend then fly
I didn’t make the ocean
that stretches off for miles
I didn’t get the waves to crash
and spray upon the sand
I didn’t make the gulls
whose cries mix with water and wind
I didn’t make the sand
that I squish between my toes
All I did was come here
to this place already made
I just had to come here
and all these gifts just came.

Very nice, Doug. I appreciate the thoughts encompassed in the poem and the images that convey them. I need to take some more time to reflect on all the gifts I have, as well.

Is that a Doug original? Very nice. I’m trying to figure out line 4. Is that how sunshine is made? Particles are smashed together with gravity, then bending (?) makes them emit light? I’m trying to remember the physics of it all . . .
Happy Thanksgiving!

I’ve been trying to write a song everyday for a little while. Since I couldn’t figure out what to post I thought I’d post the song. I’ll probably do that when I don’t know what else to say.
Bart, I guess I was talking more about the process that makes the sunset beautiful, where light collides with different particles and bounces with colors and in streaks toward our eyes.
