• Lily used her toothbrush to brush her feet each chance she got, even removing her shoes and socks to do so,
  • Elsie insisted on wearing her bright yellow rain boots to preschool every day there was not PE,
  • Timmy had to move his roses downstairs because his window got too cold during the day,
  • Abby started getting people to go on walks around the neighborhood,
  • Kate learned how to hit a ping pong ball more than ten times in a row,
  • Gina started caring for starts for several types of herbs given her by a friend, and
  • I read an email from my dissertation adviser suggesting that this academic year is the time to graduate.

Books

October 19, 2008

  • Lily said, “Daddy, this is a book,”
  • Elsie got many different people to read books to her,
  • Timmy read through 7 different books,
  • Abby finished “Felicity’s Surprise,” “Felicity’s Lesson,” and “Happy Birthday for Felicity and several others” and convinced her school library to buy a new set of American Girl books,
  • Kate read several books to her younger siblings and read to me from “Zombies Don’t Play Soccer,”
  • Gina has been giving me a blow-by-blow account of the book “Three Cups of Tea,” and
  • I committed to write a book over the next 6 months (I hope to call it a ‘dissertation’).
  • Lily insisted on walking along the rail-road tie borders on the way to the bus stop each morning,
  • Elsie learned fire safety from a real fireman,
  • Timmy bought a miniature potted rose bush and picked a yellow blossom to give to his teacher,
  • Abby was the high scorer for her soccer team,
  • Kate was overheard with her friends dealing with the drama caused by an evil looking man who had killed all their fathers,
  • Gina managed to watch several episodes of Scarecrow and Mrs. King, and
  • I told Gina  that she used to attract men like flies to vinegar.  (She didn’t take it like I meant it.  I used to work next to a fruit fly genetics lab and they would catch fruit flies using apple cider vinegar.  But Gina thinks that flies to honey fits her better.  Now that she points it out, I agree.)

As the air begins to cool

October 5, 2008

  • Lily started dancing on the chapel bench, saying “Daddy, daddy, daddy”,
  • Elsie scored a goal on Abby in our living room.
  • Timmy scored some goals on me.
  • Abby went to comfort Timmy when he got hurt, looked so threatening that he hit her, (she was crushed)
  • Kate made up a hairdo involving ponytails in the front rather than the back,
  • Gina made about 12 quarts of great salsa with some of our tomato harvest, and
  • I made a Thai egg and pork soup.
